Toronto Package Design: MagMover

One of MagMover's products is the MagPole, a long sturdy extension pole allowing customers to reach a ceiling display without the use of a ladder. Since the MagPole is a tall, cylindrical object, it required a wrap-around label that could be read while the product was stored vertically.

After writing the simple English instructions, we enlisted the services of a professional translator to create the Spanish and French versions. We then created a barcode image, drew requested do/don't illustrations, and designed a layout that incorporated the warnings and product logo (which we had previously designed) in the available space.

The Slide-N-Size is another MagMover invention. It's a measuring device that allows party decorators to accurately size latex balloons. The original plastic version of the tool only permitted one small balloon to be sized at a time. The versatility of the new metal version needed to be outlined in an instruction sheet to be included with each product.

We performed everything necessary to create the instructions: photographing various uses, writing English text, securing language translations, and designing logos and layout. Since we even printed the small-run glossy sheets (in-house on our color laser printer), a white background kept toner costs reasonable for the client..

Uplifters were described on the brochures & flyers page.

This product line really allowed our graphic design skills to shine. We created all sixteen original banner styles (illustrations shown in the top image), and designed the decorative box to anchor them (shown in the bottom photograph with three of the manufactured banners).

Since each banner had to coordinate with both the box and the added helium balloons, our color palette matched the most common brand of party-store balloons. Various graphic styles were then employed so the products will appeal to a wide range of customers.

Note: Sixteen banners went to press, but four to eight banner styles were initially designed for EACH occasion. A focus group of retailers we contacted chose which styles would be manufactured.

We also designed all of the necessary packaging and instruction sheets.

Retailers purchased Uplifters in either 4-pack or 10-pack boxes. (Walden owner Bruce Walden is shown here with the corrugated 10-pack box). Multiples of these boxes were shipped in larger cases. Since each container required unique graphics and UPC barcode stickers, it was a big job!
